Mitakhi

Mitakhi, an Alaskan Malamute, was rescued after nine hard years of working as a show dog and breeder for her previous owners.

She had a very busy life, being driven around the countryside, winning ribbon after ribbon at various dog shows. In between dog shows she was kept busy, producing litter after litter of puppies.

Mitakhi’s owners were relocating to a smaller property and winding down their showing and breeding activities, so they decided they had no further need for Mitakhi and another dog. They were to be euthanased. Luckily, a friend of the owners referred them to The Animal Rehoming Service.

Volunteer Rob and Board Member Felicity headed to the outskirts of Ballarat to rescue Mitakhi and the other unwanted dog. A foster home had been organised for the other dog, who was subsequently successfully rehomed.

Rob and Felicity offered to foster Mitakhi, until the right home came along. The plan came unstuck when Mitakhi’s cheerful, friendly personality won Rob over. Mitakhi then became a permanent member of their household!

Mitakhi now lazes around her new home, frolics around her ½ acre garden and keeps her new owners fit and healthy with her never ending desire for walks! She’s finally getting the carefree retirement she deserved!
